Notex Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 9, 2026

Notex is a local-first notes app. We do not sell personal information, show third-party ads, or use collected data to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Your notes and files

Your notes, databases, photos, audio files, and attachments are stored in the workspace you choose. This may be local app storage, an iCloud Drive folder managed through your Apple Account, another folder you select, or a NoteX server you configure. We do not receive this content unless you use a service operated by us or intentionally send it to support.

When you connect to your own Mac or NoteX server, workspace content travels directly between your devices and that server. You control the server and are responsible for its security and retention. iCloud data is handled by Apple under your Apple Account settings and Apple’s privacy practices.

Information stored on your device

Notex stores settings such as your workspace choice, server address, pinned server certificate, authentication token, display preferences, speech-recognition choice, and any Doubao API credentials you enter. Pairing tokens are stored in Keychain. Removing a workspace or uninstalling the app removes app-managed local information subject to normal operating-system and backup behavior; files in a folder or iCloud Drive remain until you delete them.

Limited analytics

On first launch, Notex sends us a one-time installation event. When Pro access first becomes active for a plan, it sends a one-time purchase event. These events can include the selected plan, an installation or vendor identifier, device model, operating-system version, app version and build, language, and region. We use this information to measure installations, understand device compatibility, and confirm which plans are used. It is not used for advertising or cross-company tracking.

Speech recognition

The microphone is accessed only after permission is granted and you start voice input. Transcribed text is saved to your chosen workspace.

Photos, camera, local network, and calendars

Notex uses photos or the camera only when you choose an image. Local Network access is used to discover and connect to a NoteX Mac. Public calendar subscription URLs are fetched to display their events; subscription settings are stored with your workspace. These permissions are not used for advertising or tracking.

Recommendations and support

When you open More Apps, Notex requests a list from our recommendation service and sends the Notex App Store ID so this app can be excluded. The service and its hosting providers may process standard network data such as IP address and request time. If you email support, we receive the information you choose to include, along with device and app details prefilled in the draft email.

Sharing, security, and retention

Data is shared only with processors needed for the features described above, services you choose, and authorities when legally required. Network traffic uses operating-system transport security, and paired NoteX connections pin the server certificate. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

One-time event records and support correspondence are kept only as reasonably necessary for analytics, support, security, and legal obligations. Third-party services retain data under their own policies. You can stop future optional processing by not using the related feature.

Your choices

You can revoke microphone, speech, photo, camera, and local-network access in system settings; remove Doubao credentials in Notex; disconnect a server; delete local workspace files; or manage iCloud files through Files or Finder. To ask about access or deletion of data held by us, email the address below. We may need information sufficient to locate the relevant record.

Children

Notex is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy and will revise the date above. Questions or privacy requests: hswillg@gmail.com.
