Footprint Privacy Policy

Footprint ("we", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data when you use Footprint — your personal travel diary.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

Location Data: When you check in at a location, the App records the geographic coordinates, place name, and timestamp of that visit. Location access is only used when you actively check in or have enabled background location for automatic logging.
Photos: You may attach photos to check-ins. Photos are stored on your device (and optionally in cloud sync for Footprint Pro users) and are never shared without your explicit action.
Notes and Mood: Any notes, mood tags, or weather data you add to a check-in are stored locally on your device.
User Feedback: Any information you voluntarily provide through support or feedback forms.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

Apple Health Data: With your permission, the App reads daily step counts from Apple Health to display alongside your check-ins. This data is read-only and never uploaded or shared.
Usage Analytics: Anonymized crash reports and usage statistics to improve app performance. No personally identifiable information is included.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide core app features: check-ins, map visualization, timeline, and travel stats.
To display your travel history on an interactive map and in your personal timeline.
To calculate travel statistics (cities, countries, photos taken, steps walked).
To sync your data across devices (Footprint Pro subscribers only, with your consent).
To improve app functionality and user experience via anonymized analytics.
To comply with legal requirements and address security issues.

3. Data Storage

All your travel data — check-ins, photos, notes, and stats — is stored locally on your device by default. Footprint Pro subscribers may enable cloud sync, in which case data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We do not access your personal travel data for any purpose other than providing the sync service.

4. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Your location history, photos, and travel data are yours. We may share non-personal, aggregated usage data with third-party service providers solely for analytics or app improvement purposes.

5. Location Data

Footprint requests location access to enable check-ins. You may grant "While Using" or "Always" location access depending on how you use the app. You can change location permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Footprint. Revoking location access will prevent new check-ins but will not affect existing travel memories.

6. Apple Health Integration

Footprint can read step count data from Apple Health with your explicit permission. We do not write data to Apple Health, and we do not share any Health data with third parties. You can revoke Health access at any time in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You can delete any check-in, photo, or travel memory directly within the app.
You can export all your data at any time using the export feature.
You can disable location, photo, or Health permissions via iOS Settings.
Footprint Pro subscribers can request deletion of cloud-synced data by contacting us.

8. Children's Privacy

Footprint is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. Cloud-synced data (Footprint Pro) is encrypted in transit using TLS and encrypted at rest. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via an in-app notice or App Store update notes. Please review this page periodically for the latest version.
